Sergey Lazarev has given his first interview since revealing “Scream” and is promising an epic performance for Tel Aviv.
Speaking to Super.ru, Sergey Lazarev has shared his thoughts following the reveal of his Eurovision entry just a week ago. The singer has hit back at criticism of “Scream” and compared it to the same experience he had in 2016:
I remember what a squall of criticism was after the song “You are the only one”, which I performed in 2016 in Stockholm. There was a lot of talk about which song is not catchy, which one is very “formatted”. Then they spoke to me like that, but after the song went around the others according to the vote of the audience, everyone changed their opinion immediately.
He explained that this year a decision was made to send a song to Eurovision that was different.
I admit, we had a deliberate move to make an “unformatted” song that will stand out from the others presented at Eurovision, because there must be a unique character in the song. It must be what distinguishes it from others.
The closest comparison to a genre that Sergey has come up with is that of a soundtrack to any blockbuster movie. He teased that:
you will see the performance will be more epic than movies
