The next artist to feature in our “Who Is” series for the Junior Eurovision 2018 season is Manw from Wales.
Manw was chosen to represent Wales at this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Minsk, Belarus after she won Chwilio am Seren earlier this month. Let’s get to know a bit more about her.
Manw Lili Robin was born in 2004 in Rhosgadfan, Wales. Active in the singing industry since 2014, Manw is no stranger to competitions, having performed at the National Eisteddfod of Wales and Urdd National Eisteddfod on numerous occasions. In 2014, she was featured in the Welsh version of the film “The Secret of Kells”, where she played the part of Awen. The young singer currently attends Ysgol Glanaethwy, a drama school in Bangor.
Towards the end of September, Welsh broadcaster S4C broadcast three pre-recorded episodes of Chwilio am Seren, the Welsh Junior Eurovision selection show. In these episodes, a number of young singers auditioned in front of the judges, who had to whittle the number down to just six, who would perform in the final.
The live final was broadcast on 9th October 2018, with Manw and five other artists taking to the stage in Llandudno. A panel of professional judges chose three artists to go through to the next stage of the contest, where they went on to sing “Hi yw y Berta”. In the end, the public decided that Manw was to represent the country at their first Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
Manw will sing “Berta” (previously known as “Hi yw y Berta”) at the upcoming Junior Eurovision Song Contest, which has been revamped since she took part in the selection show.
