Russian artist Yulia Samoylova has recorded a short cover of the Spanish Eurovision entry “Tu Canción”.
Yulia recorded a special video message for Spanish broadcaster RTVE, and included a cover of “Tu Canción” performed in Russian. Herself and her husband love the Spanish entry, which is why they decided to cover it.
Her song for the Eurovision Song Contest, “I Won’t Break”, will be performed in English. Upon questioning, Yulia revealed that she won’t be singing alone on stage, as “I will have a remarkable team alongside [me] – the composers of the song. They will be supporting me as backing singers”.
Yulia Samoylova was born in Ukhta, a small industrial town in the Russian North, on October 7, 1989. A singer, composer and songwriter, she has won multiple music competitions both in Russia and abroad. She was the runner-up of the Russian version of The X Factor and took part in the opening ceremony of the 2014 Paralympics.
She was selected to represent Russia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song “Flame is Burning”, but the country withdrew. This year, she will be performing “I Won’t Break” in Lisbon.

Russia debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994 and has gone on to be one of the most successful countries in the contest. Since the mid-00s Russia has had a string of strong results including their first and only victory to date in 2008. Dima Bilan won the contest in Belgrade, Serbia with the song “Believe” taking the contest to Moscow the following year. In the 2015 and 2016, Russia finished in 2nd and 3rd place respectively in the final.
