Georgia: Casting For Junior Eurovision 2018 Selection Show Has Taken Place

Casting for the Georgian Junior Eurovision 2018 selection show “Ranina” has already taken place.

Georgian broadcaster GPB has revealed that the casting for Georgia’s Junior Eurovision national final for next year has already taken place. The casting for the show “Ranina” took place on October 23rd from 12 pm onwards and featured children ranging from age 8 to 13-years-old. “Ranina” will be used to select Georgia’s entry for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018, and will feature multiple episodes. The show will pan out over three months.

The shortlisted artists will have the opportunity to compete in the television series alongside famous Georgian singers. From there, the winner of the competition will represent Georgia at the 2018 Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

This is not the first time that Georgia will use a national final to select their Junior Eurovision entry, as from their debut in 2007, all the way up to 2011, they used a televised final.

Georgia will be hosting the 2017 edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in the capital Tbilisi. Sixteen countries will take part in the 15th edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest this year, including returning country Portugal, who haven’t participated since 2007. The contest will take place at the Olympic Palace in Tbilisi, Georgia on Sunday 26th November 2017 at 16:00 – 18:00 CET. This is the first time Georgia has hosted any Eurovision event.

Georgia debuted in JESC in 2007 with Mariam Romelashvili and her song “Odelia Ranuni”, where she placed 4th with 116 points. Their first win was just a year later in 2008, with the trio Bzikebi and their song “Bzz”. Their second win was in 2011 with the group Candy and their song “Candy Music”. Most recently in 2016 eleven-year-old Mariam Mamadashvili performed her song Mzeo in JESC 2016 host city Malta, and took the victory with 239 points.
