Italy: Maria Iside Fiore To Junior Eurovision 2017

Italy has chosen Maria Iside Fiore to represent the country at this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Tbilisi, Georgia.

Maria Iside Fiore will represent Italy at this year’s Junior Eurovision Song Contest with her song “Scelgo”, which translates to “My Choice”. The song describe’s a young girl’s dilemmas about her future, and was written by Maria Iside along with Stefano Rigamonti and Fabrizio Palaferri.

Maria Iside attends the musical selection of her local high school in Sarzana, Italy. As well as dancing in the Danzabilmente group, she plays clarinet and sings in the school choir. Earlier in the year, she qualified for the semi-final of Cantagiro. She was later selected by RAI to represent Italy at Junior Eurovision 2017.

Sixteen countries will take part in the 15th edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest this year, including returning country Portugal, who haven’t participated since 2007. The contest will take place in the Olympic Palace in Tbilisi, Georgia on Sunday 26th November 2017 at 16:00 – 18:00 CET. This is the first time Georgia has hosted any Eurovision event. The sixteen countries taking part are:

• Russia – Polina Bogusevich
• Serbia – Irina Brodic & Jana Paunovic
• The Netherlands – Fource
• Ukraine – Anastasiya Baginska

There has been a change in the voting rules again this year. The audience will be able to vote online, which opens on Friday 24th November, and will close on Sunday 26th November. Viewers will have to watch the recap of all the songs before they place their vote on the JESC website. The first round of voting will close at 15:59 CET on Sunday 26th November. Then, during the live show, the online voting will open again once the last performance has taken place, and will be open for 15 minutes. The final audience result will be a combination of both the pre-show and live voting results. This will then make up 50% of the final vote, with the jury voting being the other 50%.

Their first and only win to date was on their debut, when Vincenzo Cantiello came in 1st place with 159 points with his song “Tu Primo Grande Amore”. Their worst result was in 2015 when twins Chiara & Martina came 16th with 34 points with their song “Viva”. Italy has placed 3rd once, in the most recent 2016 contest with Fiamma Boccia and her song “Cara Mamma”, which received 209 points. Since their debut, Italy have participated in every contest.
