Malta: Ten Junior Eurovision Finalists Announced

The ten singers who will compete in the Maltese national final for Junior Eurovision 2017 have been announced by TVM.

A total of eighty-four young singers applied to represent Malta at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2017, of which twenty were shortlisted. A jury will selected ten singers from the shortlist to go through to the live national final. TVM had previously announced that the Maltese singer would be selected behind closed doors with no public involvement. In the final the winner will be decided by 100% televote.

The national final will see the ten singers performing covers, with the Maltese public asked to select the singer for Tbilisi. The song that the winner will perform at this years Junior Eurovision Song Contest will be decided internally at the Maltese national broadcaster.

The ten finalists are:

  1.  Thea Aquilina – This is a Man’s World
  2. Jahel Cardona – One Night Only
  3. Gianluca Cilia – Perdere l’amore
  4. Kira Copperstone – The Voice Within
  5. Riona Degiorgio – True Colors
  6. Rianne Demicoli – Satelite
  7. Aidan Jay Drakard – Mad World
  8. Demi Galea – Breathing Underwater
  9. Kylie Meilak – I Believe – Fantasia
  10. Veronica Rotin – And I Am Telling You

The final will be broadcast live on TVM on Saturday July 1st. It was originally announced that the Maltese entrant for Tblisi would be chosen on June 10th and revealed to the public two days later on June 12th.

In 2013 on their return to the competition in Kyiv, Gaia Cauchi won the competition with “The Start”, she was the first winner of a Eurovision event for Malta. In 2015 Destiny Chukunyere took victory in Sofia, Bulgaria with the song “Not My Soul”. Malta finished last at the 2005 contest in Belgium with the song “Make It Right” performed by Thea & Friends.
