Lasse and Leena of the duo Norma John have taken to the stage for Finland’s first rehearsal. A big change in song following on from Montenegro. There’s very little difference between this second performance and Sunday’s first, it remains very similar to the national final performance. There’s a lot of blue lighting changing to red as the performance progresses. The instrumental section camerawork focuses on Lasse playing the piano. The floor visuals are like water, perhaps relating to the music videos too. Leena is wearing the same black dress she worked in UMK.
“I think it will be similar [to the UMK staging]. We have to make it a little bit bigger, with maybe some surprises and scale it to the Kyiv stage. But I don’t think we’ll have like fire coming off or anything like that. We don’t want to distract from the song. We want to keep it intense.”
In an interview with Eurovoix at the London Eurovision Party, Norma John had revealed that they plan on keeping the staging simple for their Eurovision performance in May.
Norma John won the Finnish national final Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2017 back in January, which meant that they would go on to represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest in May. With their song “Blackbird”, they hope to qualify for the final for the first time since 2014. In recent years Finland has performed poorly in the contest, failing to make the final for the past two years. PKN finished last in their semifinal in 2015, while Sandhja finished in 15th place in her semifinal in Stockholm.
