NaviBand this years entrants from Belarus has performed the winning song of the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, “1944” in Belarusian.
With Belarus taking to the stage for the first time NaviBand have released a cover of last years winning entry “1944” by Jamala. The group are continuing to push their Belarusian heritage and opted to perform the song for the first time in the Belarusian language. Last year the Ukrainian entry received 10 points from the Belarusian public and 7 points from the jury.
Belarus: First Rehearsal
13:02 CET // Naviband have now performed on stage. Their vocals were almost perfect throughout, the performance has gone down very well in the press centre. There’s currently a five-ten minute delay on rehearsals, meaning the duo have only performed once so far.
13:09 CET // The duo perform on a boat, floating above the LED screens as if they’re flying over cityscapes. Titanic meets Aladdin’s magic carpet.
13:19 CET // The stage lighting is blue, heavily contrasting the white outfits Naviband wear. Traditional, Belarussian pattern work is displayed across the stage while smoke fills the gap between wall and floor to make the flight over the city below seamlessly appear. There’s a lot of positive comments about this one, despite the language barrier it’s probably the only rehearsal today that’s been a certain qualifier.
