Tomorrow, Sunday 30th April, marks the beginning of the rehearsals for the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv. Each year, the release of the rehearsal clips and the first glimpse at the stagings of the entries often cause changes in the betting odds for the contest. Before the odds start to shift, here is a final look at the pre-rehearsal betting odds for Eurovision 2017.
Winner
According to Oddschecker, the current clear favourite to win this year’s contest is Italy’s Francesco Gabbani. His song “Occidentali’s Karma” has been the favourite to win the contest since it won the Sanremo Festival back in February. The best odds available for an Italian win are 10/11, with odds continuing to shorten. The current second-favourite to win the contest is Bulgaria, who’s participant Kristian Kostov currently has average odds of 13/2 to take the victory in Kyiv with “Beautiful Mess”.
Aside from Italy and Bulgaria, Sweden are also once again a strong favourite to win the contest. The best odds for their entrant, Robin Bengtsson, are currently 17/2. Completing the top 5 with the bookies are Portugal’s Salvador Sobrel and Belgium’s Blanche. Portugal’s odds are starting to shorten slightly, whilst Belgium’s odds are currently remaining steady.
Currently completing the bookies’ top 10 are Australia, Armenia, Romania, Azerbaijan and France. Most of these countries are remaining steady in the odds, although the odds for Armenia and France are starting to drift slightly. At the other end of the odds are the current bottom 5 with the juries which, from 42nd to 38th, are currently Slovenia, San Marino, Lithuania, Czech Republic and Montenegro. The best odds for a victory from any of these countries currently stand at 750/1.
Semi-Final 1
Based on the bookies’ odds for semi-final 1 qualifiers, the ten finalists from the semi-final would, from 1st to 10th, be Sweden, Armenia, Greece, Australia, Portugal, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Moldova, Latvia and Cyprus. Sweden have best odds of 1/16 to qualify, and the odds of Robin winning his semi-final currently stand at 5/2. The current favourite to finish last in semi-final 1 is Georgia, with odds of 2/1.
Semi-Final 2
The current favourite to qualify from, and also to win semi-final 2 is Bulgaria. The odds of them qualifying currently stand at 1/33, and the odds of them winning their semi-final are currently at 8/11. The rest of the bookies’ top 10 for semi-final 2 are currently Denmark, Hungary, Romania, Estonia, Serbia, Norway, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Austria. The current favourite to finish last in this semi-final is San Marino, with odds of 6/5.
It remains to be seen how the odds will be impacted by the rehearsal clips as they begin tomorrow.
