Czech Republic: Martina Performs “My Turn” Live

The Czech entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 Martina Bárta has performed her song “My Turn” live for the first time.

A few days ago the Czech Republic released their song “My Turn”, sung by internally selected Martina Bárta. Yesterday she sang the song at Golfista Roku in the Czech Republic, which was the first time the song has been sung live. In the past couple of weeks Martina has been filming the music video for the song as well as holding a number of photo shoots. Both Martina and her song were internally selected by the Czech national broadcaster following an open call for submissions at the end of 2016.

On the jury that selected “My Turn” and Martina for Kyiv were; conductor and composer Martin Kumžák (50), singer, producer and composer and member of 4TET, Jiří Škorpík (44), founder of the group Lucie and composer Michal Dvořák (51), composer and singer Pražského výběru Michal Pavlíček (60) musician, composer, conductor and member of the group BSP, Ota Balage (55).

A total of 300 songs were submitted in the Czech Republic to represent them at the contest, with five potential artists shortlisted at the start of January. This is the third year running that the Czech Republic has opted to internally select both their singer and song for the Eurovision Song Contest. Prior to their return to the competition in 2015, the Czech Republic held national finals to select their participants in the contest.

The Czech Republic debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007 with the band Kabát and the song “Malá dáma”, they finished last in the semi-final scoring just 1 point from Estonia. The country went on to participate for a further two years before withdrawing from the contest after the 2009 edition in Moscow where Gipsy.cz scored nul points. In 2016 the Czech Republic qualified for their first final, Gabriela Gunčíková finished 25th in the final with the song “I Stand”.
