Tonight: Sanremo 2017 First Evening

The first evening of Sanremo 2017 takes place tonight in Italy, as the country embarks on its legendary five night competition.

The first night of the 67th edition of Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo 2017 takes place tonight. The competition has been used by Rai the Italian national broadcaster to select their participant for the Eurovision Song Contest on and off since 1956. The competition however is not specifically used to select Italy’s entrant for Eurovision, instead the winning artist gets first refusal in participating in the competition.

A total of 22 artists are competing in the Big Festival round of Sanremo, tonight will see the first eleven performers, with Wednesday seeing the next eleven performers taking to the stage. The running order for the show is as follows:

  1. Al Bano – Di rose e di spine
  2. Alessio Bernabei – Nel mezzo di un applauso
  3. Clementino – Ragazzi fuori
  4. Elodie – Tutta colpa mia
  5. Ermal Meta – Vietato morire
  6. Fabrizio Moro  – Portami via
  7. Fiorella Mannoia – Che sia benedetta
  8. Giusy Ferreri – Fa talmente male
  9. Lodovica Comello – Il cielo non mi basta
  10. Ron – L’ottava meraviglia
  11. Samuel – Vedrai

No singers will be knocked out of the show tonight, however voting will still occur. The vote will be decided by 50% public voting and 50% press voting. The songs will not be allocated any points, instead they will receive a % of the overall vote they receive. These results will then count towards 50% of the results in the fourth evening of the competition.

From each semi final the artists who finish in the bottom four are then put at risk of being eliminated from the competition. If these singers remain in the bottom five during the semi final on the fourth evening, they will be put into a second chance round. From this round just one singer will make it through to the final.

The show will be broadcast live on Rai Uno from 20:35 CET.
