Switzerland: Preparations Underway For “ESC 2017 – Die Entscheidungsshow”

Preparations are well underway in Zurich as Switzerland prepares to stage their selection process for Kyiv, ESC 2017 – Die Entscheidungsshow.

The construction of the stage for this Sunday’s Swiss national final is now complete and rehearsals are due to get underway in Zurich. A total of six artists will be competing in the selection process, all hoping they can be the one to make it to Ukraine this May. Hosting the selection is Sven Epiney who has commentated at the Eurovision Song Contest for SRF since 200. He will be joined in the Green Room by comedian Stefan Büsser.

The running order for the final is as follows:

  1. Nadya – The Fire In The Sky
  2. Ginta Biku – Cet air là
  3. Michèle – Two Faces
  4. Freschta – Gold
  5. Shana Pearson – Exodus
  6. Timebelle – Apollo

Among the finalists selected is one returning name to Die Entscheidungsshow. Timebelle finished runners-up to Melanie Rene in the 2015 selection. Also in 2015 Shana Pearson made it through to the livecheck with the song “Kevlar Heart” but missed out on a place in the final.

The winner of ESC 2017 – Die Entscheidungsshow will be decided by 100% televote. Jury voting has not been used in a Swiss selection at any point since 2000.

Performing during the interval act will be Sebalter who represented Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark will be performing at the selection. He will performing his new single “Weeping Willow” for his latest album “Awakening”.

Switzerland hosted the first Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 a contest that they won. Lys Assia won the first contest with the song “Refrain”, it wasn’t until 1988 that Switzerland would win the contest again. At the contest in Dublin it was Celine Dion with “Ne partez pas sans moi” who beat the United Kingdom to victory by just 1 point. In recent years Switzerland has struggled finishing last five times since 2004. In the past two years Switzerland has failed to reach the final.
