Finland: “This is a good opportunity to show who I am musically” – Alva

Ten singers, one place at Eurovision and only a few days to go, we catch up with Alva who is competing in UMK 2017 with “Arrows”.

After Lauri yesterday we caught up with Alva who is the youngest participant in this years Finnish selection. At just 16 she has had an amazing past year, from being discovered after posting a song she wrote on YouTube, to now possibly representing Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest. Check out what she has to say:

What was it that made you decide to take part this year?

A song writer watched my YouTube-videos and wrote to me that he had a song that would suit me, and I liked the song very much, which was Arrows.

Your song for UMK is only your second single to be released, your first was “A Grand Illusion”, what was it like to record your first song?

I wrote the song (A Grand Illusion) together with my sister Linn and the radio stations started playing it and a lot of people seemed to like it! I had fun recording it and I knew I wanted to do this more!

Who is your biggest musical influence?

Oh, there are so many, I like for ex, Zara Larsson a lot and Little Mix have many good songs too, they are really inspirational and I love their dances.

Moving on from UMK and your time as a singer so far. What is your first memory of the Eurovision Song Contest?

When I was 6 years old and Lordi won, who represented Finland 2006.

Can you tell us more about the song “Arrows” and the message of it?

The song is not a typical pop song, it also has dept. I think that many people in my age can also relate to it. It is beautiful to listen to but can also be played on the dance floor. For me it stands for uncertainty and to not be sure where a relationship is going. Itยดs about showing ones feelings in a subtle way and giving hints, but not being sure how the crush will take it.

What would representing your country at Eurovision mean to you?

It would mean a lot. This is a good opportunity to show who I am musically and my dream right now is to work with music.

Now to round off here’s a fun question: Where would you visit in Europe if you could only go to one place?

Well, there are so many places I’d like to visit. But maybe England would be great! It is a big music country and I like the accent…
