It has been announced this afternoon that Iceland will be revealing the songs and singers competing in Söngvakeppnin 2017 in one weeks time.
The participants in Söngvakeppnin 2017 are to be revealed on January 20, in a televised program from 20:40 CET. A total of 12 songs will be competing in this years Icelandic selection, as the country hopes to return to the Eurovision Song Contest final. Iceland last competed in the final of a Eurovision Song Contest at the 2014 contest in Copenhagen, Denmark. The group Pollapönk with their song “No Prejudice” finished 15th in the final scoring 58 points.
The selection will be split into two semi finals and a final which will be held on March 11, the winner will go on to represent Iceland at the 62nd Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv, Ukraine. The dates of the shows are as follows:
- Semi Final 1 – February 25
- Semi Final 2 – March 4
- Final – March 11
A total of 12 songs will be selected to take part in the two live semi finals, three songs from each semi final will be selected to go through to the final. In the final the songs will be voted on by 50% televote and 50% jury to select the two super finalists, the two super finalists will be performed again, the winner will be the song that receives the highest number of televotes.
