Spain: Objetivo Eurovision finalists revealed

This evening TVE, the Spanish broadcaster, hosted the Eurocasting show, which was held to decide which of the three online wildcard acts would progress to the National Final Objetivo Eurovision. The winner of tonight’s show was LeKlein, whose song ‘Ouch!’ will be one of the six competing entries in the final in February.

LeKlein was the clear winner tonight, scoring an impressive 63.3% of the votes. The acts finishing in second and third were Javián and Fruela, who scored 21.7% and 15.0% of the votes respectively.

During tonight’s show, TVE also announced the names of the other five artists who will compete in Objetivo Eurovision, who have all been selected internally by the broadcaster. The six competing entries are therefore as follows:

• “Spin My Head” – Mario Jefferson
• “Momento crítico” – Maika
• “Contigo” – Mirela
• “Do It For Your Lover” – Manel Navarro
• “Lo que nunca fue” – Paula Rojo
• “Ouch!” – LeKlein

Out of the five internal selections, some names may interest fans. Mirela is a veteran of Spanish Eurovision selections, having competed in Spain’s Junior Eurovision selection show back in 2004, and in their Eurovision selection every year from 2007 to 2009. She finished in second place in both 2004 and 2007. Maika is also no stranger to Eurovision selection shows, as he entered the Swiss selection last year and made it as far as the Expert Check.

Objetivo Eurovision will be held in Madrid in February, although the date is yet to be confirmed.

Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest

Spain debuted in Eurovision in 1961 and has competed annually since. They have won the contest on two occasions, the first being in 1961 and the second being in 1969. 1969 is the only year where more than one song has won the contest, and saw a four way tie between Spain, France, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Since 2000 Spain has only managed to finish in the top.10 on five occasions, the last time being in 2014 with Ruth Lorenzo. However the country has finished 20th or below on eight occasions, the worst placing being 25th in 2013.
