Germany: Aiming For Top 10 Result in Kyiv

Thomas Schreiber the Head of Entertainment at NDR has stated that Germany’s aim is to end top 10 in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017.

Mr Schreiber the Head of Entertainment at NDR since 2007 has stated in an interview with RP Online that the broadcaster is aiming to finish within the top 10 at next years contest in Kyiv. Germany has opted to change their Eurovision selection process having ended last in the competition two years in a row.

“Unser song 2017” will see five young artists take to the stage on February 9 in Cologne all hoping that they can make it to Kyiv. A total of 30 young singers will be selected to go through to the first round of the selection process, with 5 making it to the live final. In the live final the five singers will be performing one song each which has been produced specifically to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest.

When asked about whether young unknown talent has a better chance at the contest, Mr Schreiber stated:

That’s hard to say. Some of the last winners were not newcomers in their countries but established musicians. There are always the three minutes of the live performance, which decide everything. The majority of the opinions comes from the audience, who will see and hear the artists and their songs for the first time on the final evening. Every artist has exactly three minutes to sing into the hearts.

Mr Schreiber confirmed that there will be promotion of the artist ahead of next years contest, with plans to visit a number of countries. International promotion did not occur with the German entrant in 2016, Jamie-Lee this was due to the age of the singer and her school commitments. In previous years German entrants have performed at a number of Eurovision Preview events including those in London and the Netherlands.
