Italy: Lowest Viewing Figures To Date For Junior Eurovision

An average of just under 50,000 viewers tuned into the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Italy, lower than time slot average.

Italy has seen it’s lowest viewing figures to date for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest with just 50,000 viewers on average watching this years contest in Malta. The show which was broadcast on RAI Gulp from 16:45 to 18:30 CET was watched by 21,000 viewers lower than the average viewing figure for the time slot. The show has lost over 30,000 viewers over the 2015 contest in Sofia, Bulgaria. Overall share for the contest was 0.31%, down from 0.33% in 2015.

The viewing figures for the previous two contests are as follows:

• 2014 – 151,000 viewers on average
• 2015 – 80,386 viewers on average

The performance of Fiamma Boccia was watched by 49,000 viewers on average, this is down from the 163,000 who watched Chiara and Martina perform “Viva” in Bulgaria. Viewing figures for the show yesterday peaked at 119,000 during the recap of the performances and the start of the announcement of the votes.

Despite winning the contest in 2014 and finishing third in last nights contest in Malta viewing figures have been on a continual decline since Italy debuted in 2014. This years contest had been moved to an earlier time slot in an attempt to find a more suitable time slot for the contest. However this appears to have had a negative impact to the show in Italy.
