2fm Boss Dan Healy has claimed that this years Irish Eurovision entry performed by Nicky Byrne isn’t being played on other stations due to Nicky Byrne’s role at the station.

The Irish Independent reports that the comments were made at a time when questions are being raised as to the lack of airplay for Nicky Byrne’s entry for Stockholm “Sunlight”. Dan Healy told the Irish press that:

Nicky Byrne is representing Ireland and some local and national radio stations will not play his song because he works for 2fm. I’ve been told that. I’ve spoken to Nicky about it. Some stations wouldn’t even interview him, except one. Ultimately it is a good song. The song could be in the top five in Ireland.

Healy argues that the lack of airtime for the song is down to the fact that other radio stations see 2fm and thus Nicky Byrne as competition. He states that one individual from another station said if this was three years ago they would be playing the song but 2fm is competition now and will not be playing the song.
