With the German national final this Thursday we caught up with Joco. Joco is made up of two sisters and are hoping to take their song “Full Moon” all the way to Stockholm this May. We talked to them about the opportunity of performing in the selection, their hopes for the future and their message for their fans.
Thanks for talking to us, can you tell us a bit more about Joco and your sound?
We are two sisters – Josepha and Cosima. We both sing and play all instruments by ourselves. Josepha plays the drums and Cosima plays the piano and the guitar. We make music together since our childhood and we love singing in harmonies. Our sound is pure and minimalistic and we write all our songs by ourselves. In 2015, we released our debut album ‘Horizon’, which we recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London together with the Grammy award winning Steve Orchard. We are touring a lot because we love to share our music with people.
Now you’re sisters, which one of you was it that approached the other and said “Let’s start a band”?
We grew up with making music, so it’s very natural to us to sing and play together with the sister. We both knew that it’s the best idea to start a band together.
The song you will be performing in Cologne is titled “Full Moon” can you tell us more about it?
We wrote the song ‘Full Moon’ during our festival-tour last summer. Spending nights under the open sky made us think about the moon. Every night the moon reflects the sunlight and proofs to us that the sun is still there on the other side and that there will be another sunrise tomorrow. The moon gives hope in dark hours. Everybody has a connection to the moon, that’s what we all have in common. We are all kind of in the same boat – no matter where you live, you know the moon! Also the ESC brings together many countries and we all speak the same language, which is music. We really like the thought of bringing people together with music. Our song ‘Full Moon’ fits very well, we think.
Looking ahead to the final what are you looking forward to the most about the opportunity?
We love to travel different countries with our music and to share our songs with the world. We are touring a lot with our album “Horizon” and it’s amazing to get all these positive reactions directly from the audience. The ESC is a big opportunity to reach people’s ears and hearts. Besides, the ESC brings together many countries and we all speak the same language, which is music. We really like the thought of bringing people together with music.
Whether you win the selection and represent Germany in Stockholm where do the two of you see Joco going into the future, what is your biggest aim?
As we write all our songs and play and sing everything by ourselves, it’s very important to us to always do what we want. So we will definitely keep on doing what we love, which is creating music and sharing it with the world.
Finally do you have a message for your fans and the readers of Eurovoix.com?
Don’t forget to be a reflector of love! And let no one else but yourself be the pilot in your head!
We wish them the best of luck on Thursday, take a listen to a snippet of their song below:l
