Ahead of the first show of A Dal 2016 we caught up with Petra Veres-Kovacs who is one of the 10 participants in the show tonight. Petra is a first time participant in A Dal and we talked about her recent step into professional singing and her hopes for the future.
Thank you for talking to us Petra, this is your first time participating in A Dal how did it feel when you were told you were in the final 30?
Thank you for having me! 🙂 When I found out that our song is going to be in A Dal 2016, we couldn’t believe it for weeks. “No way”- we said. It’s a huge honor for both of us, we are very-very grateful.
You’ve only recently started singing professionally, being a new artist and heading into A Dal must be a massive achievement for you?
It’s a bit hard for me now, because I’m only 19 and I just graduated from high school, but I always wanted to be a singer, I trained for this for years, this is what I always wanted. Also, I don’t feel lost, it’s just very new.
How would you define your style as a singer and what do you see yourself doing in the future?
My style is something I can’t describe, I haven’t dropped an album yet. I’m a very happy person, very emotional, and sometimes very silly, that’s pretty much who I am. I was born to be on stage, my parents always said that that’s my happy place even when I was only 4. I hope I can sing till I get very old.
Your song is titled “Singing Peace”, can you tell us more about it?
My song has a very deep and meaningful lyrics, it’s about a moment, when I felt like I have to grow up as I realized the world isn’t as pretty as we think when we are young. It fights for peace, it hopes for a better tomorrow, and I find it important to sing about social causes as well.
In the current situation of the migrant crisis and the Syrian war your song resonates with the public, what do you feel the power of a song is?
I think this song has kind of a story, we can guess what happened in the past that the I sing about, something unbelievable and awful, it can be anything. And we can’t see the future, we’re just standing in the present and trying to find out what’s next. I think the world is in this situation now, all we have to do is take care of each other.
Your song is written by yourself alongside Tamas Subecz, how important was it for you to be involved in the creation of the song?
I wrote the lyrics and Tamás composed the music, which is in my opinion, very beautiful. I’ve been working with him since I was in 9th grade, we get on well. He’s a real inspiration and amazing musician.
Now you’ve been singing since you were just 4 years old, if there was something that you could say to the younger you what would it be?
When I was 12 and watched the movie Camp Rock I always dreamed of being a singer, travel to the USA, have original songs, but if somebody said back then that it’s going to be real, I would freak out. Trust me, if you believe in something, you have to chase it, no matter what. All I did was believing in myself, and the world opened up for me. You should do the same! 🙂
