From Hungary yesterday we also now bring you our first interview with a Swiss Eurovision hopeful. Bella C is bringing a dramatic and emotional ballad “Another World” to the competition. The Bulgarian born singer is hoping to make it all the way to Stockholm.
It’s a pleasure to be able to talk to you, can you tell us a little bit more about yourself as a singer?
I started my music career 20 years ago. Traveling between Cyprus, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Turkey, Sweden, Norway , Singapore, China, Japan even Lapland ( on -40’C ) 🙂 was interesting experience to see and feel all those countries. I was doing cover songs. Than I decided to reduce stage performances and to learn more about music. Went to a studio, and start composing. I did 1-2 albums, I worked with some known Swiss musicians, but basically I wanted to develop myself as a song writer and studio musician.. Some years later I realized I was missing live performances, and then I start parallel with studio work, some small shows.. Than bigger ones, and bigger ones.. I had the honor to share the stage with Nelly Furtado, The Hurts, Loreen , ( ESC 2012) , Tom Odell , in few weeks I will perform with – with Jessie J and The Jacksons ( brothers from Michael Jackson). I’m really enjoying my life as a musician. It’s exciting, and there is nothing else in the world I wanna do, but singing and playing piano. 🙂
Now you are originally from Bulgaria but now live in Switzerland, what was it that drew you to Switzerland?
I came to Switzerland just for a month. In 1999 someone called and asked me to come over just for replacing a singer-Pianoplayer. Didn’t planned to stay longer than a month, because I had running contract in Cyprus at that time.. But the country was so wonderful, people were nice, and everybody accepted my music in a very positive way. Start becoming more contacts and offers… So Switzerland didn’t let me go! I am really happy that I stayed
As well as being a singer you are also a pianist and you play it as part of your song, what was it that drew you to playing the piano?
The music came into my life already as a small baby. My mother told me that I start singing and reacting on music when I was months old baby 🙂 funny.. But true.. my first piano lesson was on 5 and since than the music it’s always inside and around me. Cannot imagine my life without it!! I think I am seriously addicted 🙂 For me the music it’s also a way of communication. It’s beyond languages, because it’s spoken with the heart…and this what connect us all. The language of the heart ❤️
The song is called “Another World”, what was it that made you decide to submit the song into the Swiss selection?
The decision about ESC came absolutely spontaneous. It was just few days before the dead line. All happened very fast, and I didn’t have time even to think much. For a week we completed the writing of the song, recorded it, made an arrangement in the studio, shoot the video and … Uploaded it to the platform . 4 – 5 hours before dead line 🙂 It was kind of Speedy Gonzales decision, but it was really worth to do it.
“Another World” feels very much like a bond theme and has a very elegant feel to it, what does the song and its lyrics mean to you?
“Another world” it’s a very dramatic, emotional and breath-taking ballad. The text of the song came out very fast, it was Just pouring out of my fingers. At that particular moment I felt very much involved in the world’s situation. I mean : crises, personal dramas, aggression, anger, hate..etc.. Lots of negative emotions. We are living in a fast world, concentrated on wellbeing and money. Somehow lost in this endless matrix we forget the most important think. The LOVE. And I don’t talk only about love between partners and couples. I speak generally about love and respect between people. We just need to be more good with each other and change this world to “Another World” of Love..the lyrics were my message to all of us.. “Let’s spread love. We can do it, if we hold together”
How would you feel in just a months time if you took to the stage to Kreuzlingen knowing that you will represent Switzerland at the 61st Eurovision Song Contest?
I am counting the days to 13.02. Preparing mentally for the show. I am sure I would be the happiest girl in the world If Switzerland bless me “with the kiss of trust” and send me to Stockholm 🙂
