Ahead of this years Eurovision Song Contest we are catching up with the participants. Today we bring you an interview with Voltaj who will be representing Romania in Vienna with their song “De la capăt”. Here is what the guys had to say.
May I start by congratulating you on being selected to represent Romania at Eurovision 2015, how are you all feeling?
We are very happy to represent Romania in such a big contest like Eurovision, with a tradition of 60 years.
As a band you have been around since 1982, what has it been for you all over the past three decades to perform together and grow as a band?
We created the band in 1982. There have been many changes in the band over the time, but our passion for music and the support of our fans made us to resist. We are more than a band, we are like a family.
What was it that made you as a band decide to submit your song into the Romanian selection?
When we wrote and released the song with the campaign “All over again” we never thought to participate in Eurovision Song Contest. However, we realized that this contest can help us to make known internationally the fact that so many children are left home alone, while their parents are working abroad to give them the chance to a decent life.
Your song is called “De la capăt”, can you tell us how the song came about to begin with?
We wrote this song with the boys from Deepside Deejays. The lyrics were inspired from the love to our own children and thinking about them. “All over again” is more than a song, it’s a manifest. There are many dramatic cases in which children are involved. They live a trauma due to the lack of affection, although they receive gifts and packages from their parents. The people must know that Romanians are not lazy or thieves and the biggest majority are hard-working and honest, making enormous sacrifices. Therefore, they must be respected and not discriminated because of this.
The message of the song is very strong and your performance at the Romanian selection was very emotive, how are you planning to get this message across at Eurovision?
Our show will be a surprise! We think that we found a couple of great ideas to make the people in front of us and the ones sitting in front of the TV to fully understand our message and make them to take part in our campaign “All over again”.
You’ve decided to perform in Romanian and English, what was it that made you decide to perform part of the song in English?
We chose to sing a part in English because we want our message to be understood by all the people, but we kept a part in Romanian because it convey a strong emotion.
Romania has never won the Eurovision Song Contest, what would it mean for you to bring the contest back to Bucharest?
It would be an extraordinary event for our country and also for the Romanian musical world.
What plans do you have in the build up before Eurovision, will you be touring Europe or doing any events?
We won’t be at the concerts organized in Europe, but we have a strong promotional campaign.
We opened up this interview to our readers and other writers, Jamie from the United Kingdom asks where did you film your music video?
We filmed the video for “De la capăt” at Cazanele Dunarii, a beautiful place in Romania.
Emily from the United Kingdom also wants to know, which version of the song do you prefer, the English or the Romanian?
We prefer both, but if we have to choose only one, we would choose the Romanian version.
Finally, do you have anything you’d like to say to the readers of Eurovoix.com?
Our tradition message is: Live your life as you would have 20 years old! But we have something else to say: Don’t ever be afraid to start ALL OVER AGAIN!
