Ireland: Erika Selin – Interview

Erika Is Hoping To Fly The Flag For Ireland

Ahead of this Friday’s Irish national selection for Eurovision we caught up with Erika Selin. Erika who is from Sweden, is trying to win Eurosong 2015 with the song “Break Me Up”. Here is what Erika had to say:

Firstly congratulations on making it to the final of the Irish selection, how are you feeling?

Thank you very much! I’m feeling great!

Your breakthrough came back in 2009 when you competed in Idol, what was that experience like for you?

It was a great experience! I learned so much from attending Idol! I think and hope I can bring these experiences with me to Eurosong

What was it that made you decide to submit your song into the Irish selection?

My song Break me up was sent in to Eurosong by my composers for different reasons. They believed it would fit Eurosong and it was written under influences from Irish music, which I know the guys like very much, as do I. RTE liked the song and also wanted me to perform it since they said they think the song fits me and my voice. Well, the song was written for my voice and I’m really happy that RTE felt the same.

Your song is called “Break Me Up”, can you tell us more about it?

The song was presented to me from Gustav, Niclas and Danne who wanted me to sing it and I instanly fell in love with the music and the lyrics. It’s about never giving up and to always fight for what you believe in.

There have been questions as to why a Swedish singer would want to represent Ireland at Eurovision. What would it mean to you to represent Ireland in Vienna?

It would be a great honour to represent Ireland if I’d be chosen! I think music is universal and I hope the Irish people will like me and my song. All I can do is to do my best, and I promise I will.

What can we expect from your performance in Dublin on Friday night?

I hope you think it will look very nice. Me and my backing vocals mainly concentrate on singing the absolutely best we can but also to boost the entry visually.

Growing up in Sweden, Eurovision and Melodifestivalen must have been a fairly big deal, what would you say your favourite songs from the competitions are?

My favourite from Melodifestivalen is Euphoria with Loreen

Finally, do you have anything you’d like to say to the readers of Eurovoix.com?

I hope you will be able to follow the show on Friday and that you will like Break me up and our performance!

We wish Erika the best of luck on Friday and all the best for her future. You can watch the official music video for her song below:
