In the build up to Finland’s UMK selection we caught up with Eeverest, here is what they had to say:
May I start by saying thank you very much for talking to us, how does it feel to be just a couple of weeks from the live shows?
Thank you for interviewing us! We are super excited about our live show. It’s going to be very unique and most of all finally we get to perform to a large audience.
The song that you will be singing at UMK is called “Love it all away”, but more surprisingly this is your first ever single as a group. How did Eeverest come into being and what made you submit “Love it all away” into UMK?
Eeverest is actually more than the sum of its parts. Marcus and Niko met each other in Music Production entrance exam in April 2014 and if Niko wouldn’t have had his laptop with a picture of him as a DJ nothing would’ve happened. Marcus had a couple of songs that he wanted to try doing EDM style but didn’t have the right experience for that. After the first collaboration it was clear that there was something magical happening and they wanted to continue writing songs together. In search for a vocalist they found Ida from McDonald’s where she was doing summer job. Which was just a coincidence because Niko was working in the same McDonald’s and they had never met each other before! Long story short Eeverest was meant to be.
Things just happened so fast that suddenly we had a great song with Ida and UMK was starting so we decided that this would be an awesome opportunity for us to get heard!
Ida is the lead vocalist for Eeverest, how did she get into music and singing in the first place?
Ida has a background in choir singing and she just had this calling for singing.
As a child she used to whistle and hum the melodies along karaoke because she didn’t know the words to the songs.
Soon after people noticed that she could really sing and encouraged her to pursue her dreams as a singer.
You describe your music as house, who are your inspirations?
We have so many! But the biggest inspirations are Calvin Harris, Zedd, Afrojack, Steerner, Adele, Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars and Ryan Tedder.
The song is written by Marcus and Niko, how was it that the song came about?
We wanted to write a pop song that is still EDM and can be danced with in clubs which has this positive message that it you should never give up. It doesn’t matter who you are or where do you come from you can achieve anything, good always wins bad! That’s what Love It All Away means. And most of all we wanted it to be international because all the major inspirations for us are international artists and this could be achieved because Ida is so talented vocalist already even though she’s 16 years old! When we were in the studio with Antti Riihimäki aka RZY, big thanks to him for helping us in production, and Ida was singing all of us had goosebumps!
Last year Finland sent a young band to Eurovision, how would it feel for you guys to follow in the footsteps of Softengine?
What Softengine did was incredible! They came from basically nowhere and suddenly, BOOM, they won UMK and went to Eurovision. If and hopefully this same will happen to us I think we will be speechless.
What does it mean for you guys to be able to perform your debut single on national television?
Being able to perform to such a large audience so fast in the beginning of our career is incredible. Everything that has happened to us during UMK is just amazing. We believe that our song will make an impact because with the power of Love It All Away we have already gotten this far!
