Today, we present you the Hinemoa interview, who are participating in Songvakeppnin 2015, the Icelandic national final. They are competing with the song Þú leitar líka að mér, which translates as ‘You’re searching for me’ in English. This is what they had to say!
Tell us a bit about yourself? How did you form as a band and who’s who?
Well, we are the band Hinemoa and we started playing together in 2014. It started as a duett where Asta and Rakel played guitars and sang in harmonies but in the summer of 2014 Sindri, Kristofer and Gisli joined. Sindri playes the bass and Kristófer and Gisli play drums and percussion. Gisli sings as well.
How long have you been performing for?
We started playing together only a week before a national “holiday” called culture day in August 2014 where Asta had booked three gigs for us that day! That was a really awesome way to kickstart our career together in Hinemoa! There’s even a video of our first gig together on YouTube, oh how fun it is to look back and see how far we’ve come in the last months! Since that fateful day in august we’ve been very active, even playing 11 gigs in 5 days during off venue Iceland Airwaves!
Who are your music influences?
We all come from pretty different backgrounds in music but we kind of meet in the middle of cute indie-folk-town and share influences by artists such as; Paper kites, Thomas Dybdahl and Fleetwood Mac.
We haven’t had a preview of your Songvakeppnin song yet, what can we expect from it?
Hmm, we don’t know how much we can say, but we do hope you’ll like it. This song is a bit different from our other songs mostly because Asta worked on it with her friend, a lyricist Bergrún Íris and then entered in the competition. Asta hadn’t counted on getting in to the competition so it was much later that we decided to perform it as Hinemoa.
What can we expect in terms of how you will present it at the icelandic final?
We want all of you to have fun and share in the joy we will feel. The band will be playing their normal instruments and we’ve even called in a sixth Hinemoa-member the amazingly talented Regína Lilja Magnúsdóttir whos joy and bubbly personality we’re sure will shine through!
Are you fans of the Eurovision Song Contest ? What are your favorite songs and entries?
We are indeed, who isn’t? There are so many songs we like, just the other day we were talking about Euphoria, what an amazing song. It was a huge commercial success here in Iceland and got a lot of plays in the Icelandic club scene!
How would it feel if you were to represent Iceland at Eurovision in Vienna in May.
That would be awesome! Such an honour, so much fun and a great adventure for a young band such as ours. We would do our very best to represent the Icelandic nation with a smile on our face!
We wish Hinemoa the best of luck in the Icelandic national final!
