The Digital Library for Eurovision will have it’s soft launch this May. The library is being created for the 60th contest, with the aim of having digital copies of every song that has taken part in the contest since 1956 as well as the interval acts.
Mr Depraetere who is the Project Manager for the Eurovision Archive said that:
We have digitized what we had available in our archive in Geneva. But the job is far from complete. Most of the material existed on VHS tape, which is unsuitable for professional use. Now we are set-up, we expect to pick up speed as Members make their contribution. Our goal is to have at least one copy of the nearly 1,500 songs and interval acts that were performed during the ESC’s history.
He went on to say that he hopes the project will enable them to find the “Holy Grail” for the contest the lost broadcasts of the inaugural 1956 contest in full, as well as the 1964 contest which was thought to be destroyed by in the 1970s due to a fire at the DR studios.
