NDR the German broadcaster has come out today and said that it will investigate the allegations of plagiarism that surround “Glorious” the song that will represent Germany at Eurovision. Allegations have been coming out about the song’s similarity to last years winning Eurovision song “Euphoria” since Cascada’s victory in the German national final last Thursday. In the Bild last week phonetician Dr. Tina John, compared both songs concluded that both songs were similar, with small stilistic changes in Cascada’s song.
Also in the German newspaper the Bild, they had an interview with Thomas G:son in which he said:
When the German authorities indeed believe that it might be plagiarism of one of our songs, they can investigate that. It’s their right to do so. In general, pop songs are alike.
He was asked about going to court about the matter and he said:
We definitely feel honoured. It’s not plagiarism to us, however. When you would look at the composition in a wavetable, you would see that 10,000 pop songs have similar courses.
Cascada last week said when faced with the allegations that:
We can willingly compare both songs. They’re two different songs.
