The Culture Minister of Luxembourg Ms. Octavie Modert has said on a local portal to Eurovision fans that participation in Eurovision is RTL’s choice and not that of the Luxembourgian Government. “Why RTL isn’t taking part is something only they can answer but it’s known that active membership of the UER (EBU) costs a lot of money and of course this initiative hasn’t proven successful in the past for Luxembourg” It is not known whether Luxembourg will be in Malmo 20 years after the Grand Duchy last took part in the contest.
