Well it’s time to leave the lowlands for a while and venture off to the heart of Europe and to Hungary more specifically. In 2009 Hungary sent Zoli Ádok to Moscow with his song “Dance With Me”. 2009 saw the most confusing national selection ever known, the 1st winner of the contest was disqualified after it was revealed the song was a copy of the Swedish Big Brother theme song, the 2nd place act then withdrew due to wanting to focus on their acting career thus leaving Zoli with one of the worst songs we have ever seen in the contest. Now just watch and see it for yourself:
“Dance With Me” sounds like it is stuck in a time warp, it’s stuck in the 90s and just plain awful. You also have to wonder where on earth they got the outfits from because they are just horrendous, it’s like someone attacked them with colour and spandex. His voice is just plain annoying, either sing normally like a normal person would do or stay in that annoying voice for the entire song. His dancing as well just makes you cringe.
Now even Zoli knows it is a bad song when you go onto his site and there is no sight of his Eurovision entry there let alone a mention of his participation in the contest. I feel sorry for Hungary having to be represented by such a dire song in a contest that had a fairly high standard of song. “Dance With Me” finished 15th in the 2nd Semi Final with 16 points 8 of which came from a frankly confused Azerbaijani public.
What we have learn’t from this:
- Spandex does not look good
- 90s throw back songs are not going to work
- If all the songs before have been disqualified don’t go with the song that came last.
- Never ever send Zoli
