Here is the fifth of our reviews of three of this years entries to the contest. Myself and a number of judges will rate the songs our of 10; we will then say whether they will get out of their semi final and where they could place in the final or their semi final. Today we see the return of Steven to review three new songs. So tonight we will be reviewing the following countries:
- Moldova
- Malta
- Denmark
To kick us off is Moldova:
- Nation: Moldova
- Song Title: Lautar
- Artist: Pasha Parfeny
- Composer: Pavel Parfeni, Alex Bra?oveanu
- Lyricist: Pavel Parfeni
- Language: English
- Nations Last Result: 12th in the Final,97 points
Anthony: This is exactly what I expect from Moldova a stand out song that makes you smile. It’s got that perfect mix of folk music, it just adds to the depth and feel of this song. It has such a charm around it, Pasha has a great presence on the stage, he makes it light up. Yeah the lyrics are not great and get a bit repetitive which makes it drag on a bit, but it still has great feel to it. It will make it to the final but finish in the lower half of the board. 7/10
Steven: Another good artist with a decent voice and the opening instrumental, and backing music sounds unique and I like it. The middle eight and middle instrumental is another great feature and is definitely one of my favourites that I have listened to purely because it is different and catchy. Definitely a good choice for the final and I think it has a small chance of a top 10 finish but again, not likely to win. 7/10
- Nation: Denmark
- Song Title: Should’ve Known Better
- Artist: Soluna Samay
- Composer: Remee, Chief 1, Isam Bachiri
- Lyricist: Chief 1
- Language: English
- Nations Last Result: 5th in the Final, 134 points
Anthony: This song just has the special something a great beat and a great feel to it. Denmark have really put a lot of effort into the contest in recent years and it is showing. Yes it does have a feel of Anna Berghandal but it’s still very different. Soluna has a wonderful voice and the lyrics for me a perfect, it has something about it that I just can’t put my finger on. It will ease out of the semi finals and will definitely get a high number of points in the final, winning im not so sure on, but anything is possible. 8.5/10
Steven: One to Watch! A nice change from the upbeat, autotuned rubbish that Modern Music is becoming. A very nice voice and the calm instrumental in the background makes this a very very good song. It looks to me like this song is going to get a lot of votes this year and it totally deserves it. The best out of these 3 good songs. A definite pick for the top 10 and even a good chance of winning the contest despite the fierce competition from Sweden and others!
9/10
- Nation: Malta
- Song Title: This Is The Night
- Artist: Kurt Calleja
- Composer: Johan J
