Review: Nelly Ciobanu Moldovan National Selection Entry

Nelly Is Back And Possibly Even Better

It seems that all the past Moldovan representatives are trying to get their fix of the Eurovision bug again. Nelly Ciobanu represented Moldova back in 2009 on stage in Moscow with “Hora Din Moldova” a brilliant ethnic folk number that I love to this day, still my favourite Moldovan entry ever.

Unlike Geta Burlacu who has entered three songs to the Moldovan National Selection this year Nelly has only entered one “Turn On The Light”. “Turn On The Light” is very different to Hora Din Moldova from the outset, first of all it is fully in English, it has a brilliant start making for a great contrast to the chorus. I will say her voice is a powerful as ever, Im notsure if it fits what Moldova sends whcih is normally very unique and different from other songs. I do indeed like this song a lot, it has a lot of power and could do very well. I would love to see this on stage in Baku.
