Voxovation Proposes ‘Eurovision Arab World’

Voxovation, which owns the rights to broadcast the Eurovision Song Contest internationally, is promoting an Arab World format of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Voxovation has released a new potential international format for the Eurovision Song Contest on its website. The Arab World has been added to the list of potential markets for a version of the Eurovision Song Contest for which Voxovation holds the rights.

Voxovation explains that:

“EUROVISION ARAB WORLD is a celebration of that unity — a television event that brings together nations with deep histories and modern ambitions, where music bridges generations and traditions. Imagine the passion of the Arab Cup, the glamour of the Cairo Film Festival, and the cultural prestige of Expo Dubai, all wrapped in the artistry, emotion, and spectacle that define Eurovision Song Contest.”

The Arab World is defined as being formed of 22 countries, ranging from Oman to Mauritania. The list of eligible countries to compete would likely be:

This is not the first time that a Eurovision format for the Arab World has been proposed. The European Broadcasting Union first mentioned discussions about a Eurovision Song Contest for the Middle East and North Africa in early 2007. The sale of the format of the Eurovision Song Contest for the Middle East and North Africa was announced in January 2008 by the European Broadcasting Union. The format was sold to Nibras Media Ltd, a Middle Eastern-based media group, that would work alongside the Tanweer Group on the competition.

Since 2018, Voxovation has held the rights to the Eurovision Song Contest outside of Europe and has worked to expand the competition globally. It has proposed formats in:

In 2022, Voxovation partnered with NBC for the American Song Contest, which aired for one season. Contests for Canada and Latin America have been announced, but have yet to be held.
