It has been announced that Sennheiser and its local partner Magnelusa will be supplying both Digital 6000 microphones and 2000 series wireless monitors for the Altice Arena in Lisbon for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018.
Technical rehearsals began for the contest on Sunday ahead of the rehearsal period for all competing artists so the equipment has already been sent to the arena and is being used.
Ahead of all the participants from the 43 competing countries arriving in Lisbon for the contest, it has been confirmed that in addition to the Digital 6000 microphones, for their performance all artists will be assisted by SKM 6000 handhelds with MD 9235 dynamic capsules. Alternatively for more energetic performances, artists will be using SK 6000 bodypacks with Sennheiser custom headmics.
Volker Schmitt who is the director of custom development and application engineering said the following:
“We are excited to be technical suppliers to the ESC, the world’s largest live music broadcast, and very much look forward to working with Daniel Bekerman, the head of sound for this magnificent series of live shows”
In addition to supplying technical equipment for the stage, Sennheiser will also be providing all audio equipment for backstage as well as in the press centre for conferences and Q&A sessions with the artists and other members of the organisation. Volker Schmitt and his team from Sennheiser will be present throughout the contest in order to offer technical support for all of its systems in place.
Volker added:
“Altogether, more than 100 wireless channels will be in use for audio alone. This will be an ideal environment for Digital 6000 to demonstrate its spectrum efficiency. As the system has been designed to be intermodulation-free, we can arrange its transmission frequencies in an equidistant grid, saving spectrum for other wireless applications.”
The following equipment will be used in Lisbon:
– 41 EM 6000 two-channel receivers
– 74 SK 6000 bodypack transmitters
– 68 SKM 6000 handheld transmitters, with MD 9235 capsules for the artists and KK 204 capsules for communication purposes
– 115 custom Sennheiser headmics
– 6 SKM 9000 COM handheld transmitters
– 6 KA 9000 COM Command switches
– 21 L 6000 rack-mount charging units with chargers for SK 6000 and SKM 6000/9000
– 17 SR 2050 IEM two-channel transmitters
– 112 EK 2000 IEM bodypack receivers
The Eurovision Song Contest 2018 will begin on Tuesday 8th May for semi final 1 and after semi final 2 on Thursday 10th May the contest will conclude with the grand final on Saturday 12th May.
