Nani Vazana has been announced as the third act competing in Liet International 2024 in Bastia, Corsica.
Ladino language performer Nani Vazana has revealed she will be competing in Liet International 2024 next month in Corsica. The singer will perform in Ladino, the language of Sephardic Jews which is spoken by around 50,000 people.
Nani will be competing with “Una Segunda Piel” which translates as “A second skin”, the song has been written and composed by Nani. Speaking to Jonet.nl Nani explained:
It is inspired by a Sephardic tradition of a rebirth-rite of passage at the age of seventy … The chorus contains the famous Ladino proverb Con Los Anyos Viene El Sechel , With age comes wisdom.
To date, the following artists have been confirmed as participating in the contest:
- LeDazzo – Sorbian language
- Melissa Pander – Frisian language
- Nani Vazana – Ladino language
Liet International is a song contest for regional and minority languages spoken across Europe. The contest was first held in 2002 as an evolution of Liet, a Frisian language song contest held in the Netherlands.
A total of thirteen songs will be selected to compete in the contest. Three acts will be prequalified for the contest: Melissa Pander the winner of Liet 2023, a song representing the German minority in Denmark and an act from Corsica.
Bastia in Corsica is set to host the 14th edition of the Liet International Song Contest for minority languages. The city will host the contest in partnership with the Collectivité of Corsica and France 3 Corse ViaStella. The final is set to take place on November 22 at the Centru Culturale Alb’oru. France 3 Corse ViaStella will broadcast the final live from Bastia.
