Today: Vienna New Year’s Concert 2024

It’s a New Year which means it is time for the annual Vienna New Year’s Concert, one of the largest classical music events of the year.

The Vienna New Year’s Concert has been held annually since 1941 and is broadcast across the globe. This edition of the concert will be conducted by Christian Thielemann. This year’s concert will celebrate the 200th birthday of the Austrian composer Bruckner, featuring eleven of his symphonies.

Among the other works that will be performed are “Archduke Albrecht March” by Karl Komzák, the “Figaro Polka” by Johann Strauss and “Glædeligt Nytaar!” by the Danish composer Hans Christian Lumbye. One of the interludes will introduce the European Capital of Culture 2024 Bad Ischl, with a series of ballet performances for the Vienna State Ballet.
