The EBU and Swedish broadcaster SVT have unveiled the new stage design that will be used at the Malmö Arena for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.
Revealed in images on Eurovision’s official Instagram account, the 2024 stage takes the form of a cross, with a central stage extended on all four sides by additional platforming.
With the main stage in the middle of the arena, audiences will experience a full 360-degree vision of every performance. Above the stage, there are movable LED cubes and lights, while lights and video screens are also modular. With all the options available, expect no performance at Eurovision 2024 to be the same.
The new stage concept has been created by Florian Wieder, who is the Production Designer for the contest, and Fredrik Stormby, the Light and Screen Content Designer.
Wieder is an experienced stage designer for Eurovision – this is the eighth time that he has been involved in the stage design for the contest. He has also worked on all kinds of other major events, and he even designed the opening ceremony for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
However, this is the first time he has worked with SVT to create a stage for a Swedish Eurovision, and it’s the first time he’s worked on the contest since Rotterdam 2021.
Fredrik Stormby, meanwhile, is one of the founders of Green Wall Designs, a studio that specialises in video content. His experience in lighting and video includes working on the Swedish national final, Melodifestivalen, and he was a part of Loreen’s creative team for her Eurovision winning song, “Tattoo”, this year.
He’s also worked on some of the world’s biggest concerts, including ABBA Voyage and Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour, and he was involved in the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 – the last time the competition was held in Malmö.
Ebba Adielsson, Executive Producer of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, says that “we have not seen anything like this before at Eurovision”:
The concept gives us endless opportunities to create unique spaces and expressions for both the competing artists and the opening and interval acts. Florian and Fredrik’s creation is simply fantastic and it will be so much fun to see the end result!
Florian Wieder says that this stage concept will help “take Eurovision to the next level”:

While Fredrik Stormby says he feels “honoured to have been commissioned” to work on the lighting for Eurovision 2024:

Eurovision 2024 is being held in Malmö, Sweden, after Sweden won the contest in 2023. The shows will take place on the 7th, 9th and 11th of May 2024, and will be staged at the Malmö Arena.
