It has been revealed that a total 108 songs have been submitted to the Latvian national selection, Supernova 2024.
Latvian broadcaster, LTV, has revealed that a total of 108 songs have been submitted to Supernova 2024. This is down 14 songs from the 2023 edition of the competition. Agnese Štrause-Kubiljna at LTV commented:
“We have received 108 unique and personal compositions in a wide variety of musical genres, which proves that music is a universal language that unites us all.”
When selecting the competing songs for Supernova 2024, a jury formed by LTV will assess all submitted entries and evaluate them based on the following:
“Originality, arrangement, message, compliance with modern market trends, as well as the opportunities and potential of the song and the contestant to compete in the international pop music market, the performer’s vocal abilities, personality and previous achievements in the industry, and potential for future achievements.”
The participants of Supernova 2024 will be revealed in January, with the selection to be held in February. A combination of public vote and jury vote will determine the Latvian representative for Eurovision 2024 in Malmö.
Sudden Lights represented Latvia in Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool, after winning Supernova 2023. They competed in semi-final 1 and ended up just missing out on the Grand Final, finishing in 11th place with their song “Aija”.

Latvia debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2000, being the last of the Baltic nations to join the contest. On their debut, Brainstorm finished in 3rd place with the song “My Star”. Latvia won the contest for the first and only time in 2002, with Marie N’s “I Wanna”. Latvia struggled in the contest after 2002, failing to qualify for the final for six years between 2009 and 2014. They last made a final in 2016 with Justs and “Heartbeat”.
