Today the song submission window for Melodifestivalen 2024, the Swedish selection for Eurovision opens.
The host country of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 opens its submissions window for their national selection today. Songs can be submitted from today until September 15 to represent Sweden on home soil in Malmรถ, full rules can be found here.
SVT has already announced changes to the format of Melodifestivalen for the 2024 contest. The Semi-Final has been scrapped and instead there will now be five heats, from which the top two will directly qualify for the final. In each heat the acts placed 3rd and 4th will then compete at the end of the fifth heat in a run-off vote for the final two places in the Grand Final.
The semi-finals will have fewer songs than in previous years. Six songs will compete in each show instead of the usual seven, which means that there will be 30 artists competing overall โ a slight increase on the 28 that usually go through to Melodifestivalen.
