GPB has announced that Tornike Kipiani will be performing “You” for Georgia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021.
The Georgian public broadcaster has announced that “You” is the title of the Georgian entry for Eurovision 2021. Tornike wrote and composed “You” himself, the song is being performed in English and is mix of rock, pop-rock and blues-rock, with the song being about love.
Tornike arranged the song in in Bravo Records Studio alongside Aleko Berdzenishvili. In addition to Tornike’s vocals, the Gori Girls’ Choir, Aleko Berdzenishvili, Marian Shengelia and Mariko Lezhava also took part in the recording of the song.
The music video of “You” has been directed by Temo Kvirkvelia. Filming for the video took place in a number of different locations. The song is set to be revealed this month.
Emilia Sandquist will be the stage director for the Georgian performance, Emilia was due to stage the Georgian entry in 2021. Emilia is part of the Jean Baptiste Group, who have staged Eurovision entries for Georgia, Cyprus and Bulgaria amongst others.
Tornike Kipiani was internally selected to represent Georgia this May, he was due to compete in Eurovision 2020 with the song “Take Me As I Am”. Following the announcement of the contests cancellation he was reconfirmed as the nations 2021 representative.
Who is Tornike Kipiani?
Tornike Kipiani was born on 11th December 1987 in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi. The singer rose to fame after the won the first season the X Factor Georgia in 2014, where his mentor was Tamta (Cyprus 2019). In 2017 he attempted to represent his country at the Eurovision Song Contest with his song “You Are My Sunshine”.

Georgia debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007, they were represented by Sopho Khalvashi and the song “Visionary Dream”. Sopho finished 12th in the final scoring 97 points, the song received 12 points from the televoters in Lithuania. Their best result was a 9th place in both 2010 and 2011. Georgia has only ever missed one contest since their debut, this was in 2009 when they had selected Stephane & 3G with “We Don’t Wanna Put In”. The EBU asked for Georgia to rewrite the lyrics of the song or change the song completely.
