Luna Ki has withdrawn from Benidorm Fest as her song “Voy a morir” is ineligible to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest.
RTVE has announced this morning that Luna Ki has pulled out of competing in Benidorm Fest. The singer has withdrawn after it was found that “Voy a morir” would not be able to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest. Luna Ki’s song features the use of autotune which is not allowed at the contest.
Luna Ki was due to compete in Semi-Final One of Benidorm Fest, her withdrawal means that now only six acts will compete in the first show. They are:
- Varry Brava – “Raffaella”
- Azúcar Moreno – “Postureo” (Posing)
- Blanca Paloma – “Secreto de Agua” (Secret of Water)
- Unique – “Mejores” (Better)
- Tanxugueiras – “Terra” (Land)
- Chanel – “Slo mo”
Four songs will qualify from each show to the final, which will take place on January 29. The results in each show will be decided by jury voting (60% Spanish jurors and 40% international jurors) and public voting (50% televoting and 50% demoscopic jury).

Spain debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1961 and has competed annually since. Spain has won the contest on two occasions the first being in 1968 and the second time in 1969. 1969 is the only year where more than one song has won the contest. The 1969 contest saw a four-way tie between Spain, France, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Since 2000 Spain has only managed to finish in the top 10 on five occasions, the last time being in 2014 with Ruth Lorenzo. However, the country has finished 20th or below on ten occasions, the worst placement being 26th in 2017.
