The twenty songs that will compete in Festival da Canção 2022 will be revealed by RTP on January 21.
In just over one week’s time, the twenty songs that are competing to represent Portugal at the Eurovision Sng Contest 2022 will be revealed. To date RTP has revealed the composers competing in Festival da Canção, the composers may sing their entry themselves or choose another artist to sing it.
Festival da Canção will once again be formed of two semi-finals, with five songs qualifying from each semi-final. The Grand Final will be held with ten competing entries, the winner will be determined by 50% televote and 50% jury voting.
The split of the composers to semi-finals is listed below:
Semi-Final One – March 5
- Fado Bicha
- Joana Espadinha
- Kumpania Algazarra
- The Mister Driver (public submission)
- Tiago Nogueira (Os Quatro e Meia) (public submission)
Semi-Final Two – March 12
- DJ Marfox
- Fábia Rebordão
- Os Azeitonas
- Pedro Marques (public submission)
- Pepperoni Passion (public submission)

Portugal debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1964 represented by Antonio Calvario, the country finished last scoring nul points. Prior to 2016, the best result of Portugal was 6th place which came in 1996 when Lucia Moniz performed in Oslo. She scored 92 points, receiving the 12 points from both Norway and Cyprus. Since their debut, Portugal have missed a total of five contests. In 2017, Portugal produced a spectacular win when Salvador Sobral took home the crystal microphone with his song “Amar Pelos Dois.” The 2018 contest was held in Lisbon, Portugal for the first time.
