Ahead of the first show for the Festival della canzone italiana di Sanremo on February 1, rehearsals have commenced.
Photos showing rehearsals of the orchestra that will provide backing to all of this year’s acts at Sanremo 2022 have been shared online. Among the artists pictured rehearsing with the orchestra are Emma (represented Italy at Eurovision 2014) and Fabrizio Moro (represented Italy at Eurovision 2018).

The 2022 Festival della canzone italiana di Sanremo is due to take place in the first week of February from the 1st to the 5th. The titles of the twenty-five participating songs in the Big Category of the 72nd edition of Sanremo can be found here.
It was revealed during a press conference in June that the Sanremo hosts will not be the same as the hosts of the upcoming Eurovision Song contest 2022 which Italian broadcaster Rai is also organising. Alberto Bianchieri the Mayor of Sanremo has confirmed that the Festival di Sanremo 2022 will be held with a reduced capacity audience.

Italy debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 and has participated a total of 42 times to date. Italy returned to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011 having last participated in the contest in 1997, the country has withdrawn from the contest on a number of occasions in the past. Italy has won the contest three times, the first time being in 1964 and the latest being in 2021. Since their return in 2011 Italy has finished in the top 10 on eight occasions.
