A total of 94 artists have applied to compete in Selecţia Naţională 2022, the Romanian national selection for Eurovision.
TVR has announced that a total of 94 artists submitted songs to compete in Selecţia Naţională, in hope of representing Romania at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. Around 40% of the submissions received were from acts and songwriters from outside of Romania including Sweden, the United Kingdom and Bulgaria.
Head of Delegation Iuliana Marciuc commented:
I am glad that many artists, Romanian and foreign, have responded positively to the challenge we have launched and I thank them for the trust they have given us. I think that the jury will have a not easy task in the next two days, when it will decide the semifinalists of this year’s edition
A total of five jurors will evaluate the entries received for the national selection. These jurors are:
- Alexandra Ungureanu (singer, NF 2003 participant)
- Ozana Barabancea (jazz singer)
- Randi (singer and producer, juror in NF 2016)
- Cristian Faur (composer of “Let Me Try” (Romania 2005))
- Adrian Romcescu (composer of “Eu cred” (Romania 1998))
On December 20 and 21, the jury will select 45 to move on to the next stage on the selection. The results of the jury evaluation will be revealed no later than December 23.
All 45 songs will then compete in a two-part semi-final. From February 5 to 10 a jury and the public will be able to vote online for their favourite acts. The jury will select 15 songs to progress to the second part of the final, while the public will select 5 songs.
On February 12 a televised semi-final is then held, with the first live performances from the twenty shortlisted songs. In this show a jury will select ten songs to go through to the final, they will announce their points after each performance.
On March 5 the final of Selecţia Naţională will be held, the winner representing Romania at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin, Italy. The winner will be determined by a combination of public vote and jury voting.

Romania first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994, the country had tried to participate in 1993 but failed to get through the pre-qualifying round. At the 1994 contest Dan Bittman finished 21st in the final scoring 14 points, Romania didn’t make it through to another final until 1998. Romania’s best results in the contest are two third-place finishes. In 2005 Luminita Anghel & Sistem finished 3rd scoring 158 points, while Paula Seling & Ovi finished 3rd in Oslo with the song “Playing with Fire”. Romania missed the 2016 contest due to TVR being removed from the EBU.
