Rai has announced the twenty-two artists that will be competing in the Campioni category of Sanremo 2022.
The twenty-two participants in the Big Category of the 72nd edition of Sanremo have been announced this evening. The competing artists are:

- Gianni Morandi
- Ditonellapiaga & Donatella Rettore
- Highsnob & Hu
- Le Vibrazioni
- Massimo Ranieri
- La Rappresentante di Lista
- Ana Mena
- Achille Lauro
- Michelle Bravi
- Iva Zanicchi
- Fabrizio Moro
- Mahmood ft. Blanco
- Giusy Ferreri
- Giovanni Truppi
Six former Eurovision participants are among the artists competing. Iva Zanicchi competed in 1969, Gianni Morandi in 1970, Massimo Ranieri competed 1971 and 1973. Emma represented Italy in 2014, Fabrizio Moro in 2018 and Mahmood in 2019.
The 2022 Festival della canzone italiana di Sanremo is due to take place in the first week of February from the 1st to the 5th. The twenty two artists announced this evening will be featured as part of Sanremo Giovani on December 15.
It was revealed during a press conference in June that the Sanremo hosts will not be the same as the hosts of the upcoming Eurovision Song contest 2022 which Italian broadcaster Rai is also organising.

Italy debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 and has participated a total of 42 times to date. Italy returned to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011 having last participated in the contest in 1997, the country has withdrawn from the contest on a number of occasions in the past. Italy has won the contest three times, the first time being in 1964 and the latest being in 2021. Italy’s hosting of the contest in 1991 has been remembered as one of the most chaotic contests to date. Since their return in 2011 Italy has finished in the top 10 on eight occasions.
