12 Xal reports that Sona Azizova will perform a pop song at the 19th Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
Sona Azizova will perform a pop song for Azerbaijan at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Speaking to 12 Xal, Sona explained that:
The song is about people’s love, friendship and care for each other
Sona has previously expressed her hope that she will perform a “rock style song” in Paris if she was given the choice. If a rock song was not possible then she would like a song that uses traditional instruments, such as tar or saz.
İTV has not yet revealed any details regarding when the Azerbaijani song will be revealed or the title of the song that Sona will perform in Paris.
Sona was internally selected by İTV to represent Azerbaijan on the nation’s fourth overall appearance at Junior Eurovision and there first since 2018. Sona participated in the first season of The Voice Kids Azerbaijan earlier this year, where she finished second.

Azerbaijan debuted in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest at the 2012 contest in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The nation had previously attempted to take part in the contest in 2008 but withdrew before the competition took place. The countries record in the contest was not as strong as in the Eurovision Song Contest. Azerbaijan’s best result came in 2013 on their last appearance in the contest where Rustam Karimov placed 7th with the song “Me and My Guitar”. Azerbaijan withdrew from the contest in 2014 for unspecified reasons.
