The city council of Turin has approved funding to enable the hosting of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in the city.
Thirty-two out of thirty-four councilors have voted in favor of a budget variation that enables Turin to host the Eurovision Song Contest. The motion which saw two abstentions will allow up to 5 million Euros to be made available to assist with the hosting of the competition next May.
Further funding will come from a range of other local bodies including 2,000,000 Euro from the Piedmont Region, 500,000 Euro from the Chamber of Commerce, the Compagnia di San Paolo and the Crt Foundation, and 1,000,000 Euro from Iren. The remaining funding for the contest will come from RAI, the event sponsor, and the EBU. In the past, the total cost of hosting the Eurovision Song Contest has ranged from 13.5 to 40 million euros.
Turin will host the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 on May 10, 12 and 14 2022. The host venue of the 2022 contest is PalaOlimpico. The arena was opened in 2005 and has hosted numerous concerts and sporting events, including the ice hockey tournaments during the 2006 Winter Olympics.
