BHRT, the Bosnia & Herzegovina broadcaster, has confirmed that they will not participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022.
BHRT confirmed to ESCToday that they will not return to Eurovision in 2022. BHRT last took part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2016 but withdraw from the contest in 2017 due to financial issues at the broadcaster. BHRT has in the past explained that it is unlikely to return to the Eurovision Song Contest in the near term unless the method by which it is funded is resolved.
BHRT is funded through a license fee which currently does not provide enough revenue to fund the channel, in 2019 the channel recorded a loss of 2.8 million Euro (5.5 million BAM). In 2018 the broadcaster previously explained that it would take 2 years between it starting to repay its debts and being able to compete in the contest. In 2019 BHRT confirmed it was unable to afford the rights to broadcast the contest, this was also the case in 2021. It is still unknown if BHRT will be able to broadcast the 2022 contest.
Bosnia and Herzegovina last participated in the 2016 contest, in which returning artist Deen represented the country with the song “Ljubav Je” along with Dalal, Ana Rucner and Jala. The group just missed out on qualification chances, ending in 11th place in the semi-final with 104 points.
