Today SVT closes the submissions window for entries to compete in Melodifestivalen 2022 and represent Sweden at Eurovision.
Sweden’s national broadcaster SVT today closes the submissions window for Melodifestivalen 2022. A total of 28 songs will compete in Melodifestivalen 2022. 14 songs will be chosen directly from the submissions process by a selected jury and 14 songs by artists or songwriters that have been invited to compete, or songs that SVT has chosen from the songs that were sent in.
SVT is determined to give priority to 10 songs out of the total competing songs if they are mainly written in Swedish. The same melody of a song can be submitted with lyrics in different languages. However, if the selected song wins Melodifestivalen, it is the broadcaster that decides in which language the song has to be performed.
Swedish citizens are allowed to send in songs for the competition; foreign songwriters are also allowed to submit an entry if it has at least one Swedish composer/lyricist. The broadcaster aims that at least 50% of the composers and lyricists competing are female.
SVT will announce the competing acts at some point after November 25th, 2021.
