RAI, the Italian national broadcaster, has confirmed their participation in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021.
Despite initially choosing not to participate in Junior Eurovision 2021 due to RAI’s policy of minors on television and Eurovision 2022 being held in Italy, RAI today confirmed that they would be returning to the contest after missing last year’s edition. In a statement released today, RAI stated that they hoped to achieve similar success in Junior Eurovision 2021 to Måneskin in the adult contest.
The Italian representative and entry will be revealed in November. The contest itself will be broadcast live for Italian viewers on Rai Gulp and Rai Play on December 19.
Italy withdrew from the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The broadcaster had competed in the contest since 2014 and was the first Big Five country to compete in the contest since 2007. Italy joins Albania, Azerbaijan, Ireland, North Macedonia, and Portugal in returning to the contest this year. On their last appearance in the contest in 2019, Marta Viola performed “La voce della terra” and finished in 7th place with 129 points.
