Croatia will not return to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest this year.
The Croatian public broadcaster HRT has confirmed to Eurofestivales that they will not participate in the 2021 Junior Eurovision Song Contest. The broadcaster did not give a reason behind its non-participation. Croatia last participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2014 and was the first winner of the contest in 2003.
Junior Eurovision 2021
The 2021 Junior Eurovision Song Contest will take place in La Seine Musicale, Paris, France on Sunday 19th December. The contest will be hosted by France for the first time following Valentina’s victory at the 2020 contest with her song “J’imagine”.
To date, the following countries have confirmed participation in the contest:
- Azerbaijan – Sona Azizova
- North Macedonia
- Portugal – Simão Oliveira

Croatia debuted in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2003 and the won the first competition represented by Dino Jelusic and his song “Ti si moja prva ljubav”. Following their victory Croatia was due to host the competition after the United Kingdom had difficulties, however Croatia also had to withdraw as their planned venue was booked for the dates of the contest. Croatia went on to participate until 2006 when they withdrew from the competition. In 2014 Croatia returned represented by Josie and her song “Game Over”, she finished last with 13 points.
